As a Software Engineering Intern... [Description of Experience Coming]
Teaching Assistant, Web Application Design and Development
Company: University of North Carolina at Charlotte
From August, 2019 to December, 2020
While studying at UNC Charlotte I quickly found that I enjoyed Web Application Design and Development, I as well excelled at it. I applied to be a TA as during the class, I always found myself helping others around me. Rather than just giving
answers, I was trying to teach them, as seeing them understand a concept was extremely rewarding for me. I was accepted as a TA and my responsibilities included grading, holding regular office hours and meeting with students one-on-one to ensure their
academic success in the class.
Company: CLT Rent
From December, 2019 to May, 2021
While working as a Property Manager at CLT Rent in Charlotte, NC I gained many valuable skills regarding interpersonal communication, sales, and marketing. While in this position however I continued to build upon my Software Development skills by creating tools such as a CRM and other statistics compilers for use in the business.
Company: Peak Campus Communities
From October, 2017 to December, 2019
When moving to Charlotte, I made a conscious decision to pursue work while attending school in an area that would help me develop my interpersonal communication skills. While attending a career fair, I came across the Property Manager for a new and upcoming student housing community being built near UNC Charlotte. One of the selling points was their technology-forward focus, including smart apartment features and other technological implementations that weren't
yet that popular in the student housing sector. While there, I gained an incredible amount of knowledge in team building, sales, marketing, and crisis communications. Unfortunately, the apartment was delayed by over 3 months, causing almost 900 residents to be displaced. Being a Leasing Consultant on the front end of phone calls an emails, I had to learn to adapt and overcome this challenge. I also created some web applications that are still used by the team there today.
Company: Oracle
From September, 2014 to September, 2017
Note: Oracle acquired Tekelec in August of 2014. While at Oracle I gained a heap of valuable knowledge that pertains to working in a professional, software development environment. I worked on an Agile/SCRUM team to develop, launch, and support software for internal use by members of the Technical Communications department. I decided to leave Oracle to continue my pursuit in further education.
Technical Communications and Lab Support Intern
Company: Tekelec
From June, 2011 to August, 2014
I started working at Tekelec my sophomore year of high school as a Technical Communications Intern. I developed Microsoft Word Macros to convert Technical Documentation written in Microsoft Word, directly to XML to allow for importing of the documentation into our Content Management System. Over time, I became more involved in the actual
writing process - working with other Technical Writers and developers to understand the products Tekelec offered. My senior year of high school I developed a keen interest in networking, and so spent a few months with the DevOps Lab Team at Tekelec, setting up and configuring routing/networking equipment in our internal labs for developers.
